Belle Tout Lighthouse

(Hand coloured drypoint engraving)
Image size: 15cm W x 15cm H
Edition of 6

Belle Tout Lighthouse was the original lighthouse built on the cliffs at Eastbourne (on the site of an Iron Age hill fort). It was completed in 1834 and decommissioned in 1902 when the current lighthouse (the red and white stripy one) came into service. Since 1903 Belle Tout has had various owners, one of whom had the whole 850-ton building moved back from the cliff! It was restored in 2008 and is now a B & B.

My engraving of Belle Tout is from inland looking out to sea on a calm summer day. If you listen carefully, you may even be able to hear the seagulls.

Each engraving is printed using Caligo Safe Wash ink and hand coloured with watercolour. As such there will be small variations between each print.
