The distinctive profile of Firle Beacon (on the South Downs near Lewes) is usually shown viewed from the east, but in this linocut I’ve chosen to show it looking up at its summit from the old coach road running at its foot. It’s a lovely sunny day in late May with the barley growing strongly and the Cow Parsley in full flower.
